AP Voter Complains They Get Made Fun Of Too Much For Top-25 Polls The Same Day He's The Only One Not To Have UK No. 1, Proving He Deserves All The Ridicule (Especially From Prophet Calipari)
[Source] - It’s a fun job, one that forces you to pay attention to what’s going on in college basketball. It’s also a tough job, which subjects you to criticism from fans who think you didn’t rank their team high enough — if at all. There’s no doubt media members should be held accountable for any mistakes — perceived or not — they make. But it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for another media type to lead the crusade in embarrassing that writer/voter.
Alright, we talk about having some self-awareness all the time around here and unfortunately Dave Borges doesn't have any idea about that. You can't sit here and complain that people call you out on your bullshit (the AP poll tends to be bullshit, especially after the preseason) while doing dumb things. He decided to rank Kentucky - the best team in the country (not my words, they are literally the No. 1 team in the country) No. 4 without any reasoning. Let's recap the first week of the season for Kentucky:
- Beat Michigan State, the consensus No. 1 team in the country, on a neutral court leading for 98% of the game.
- Kick Eastern Kentucky's ass at home, exactly what a great team should do.
- Suffer no injuries and not have a top recruit deemed likely ineligible
Pretty good first week if you ask me. Remember, this is the team that was ranked No. 2 coming into the week, so it would make sense for them to be viewed as the best team in the country. I mean no one has a better win than Kentucky on the season. The teams he has ahead of them:
- Louisville - win at Miami
- UNC - home win vs Notre Dame
- Duke, neutral court vs Kansas
Here's the thing. I don't give a rat's ass where you rank a team, because, again the AP poll is getting more worthless each year with the development of KenPom and other analytical rankings to use instead. The fact is this Dave dude spent time bitching and moaning about how people make fun of the top-25 and how he's so damn tough because he puts his poll out there instead of actually explaining why this happens.
Of course this guy covers UConn too. Of course.
